LHHD-I Type Pavement Cross-Section Dimensions
The pavement cross‑section gauge is used to measure rutting in asphalt pavements, for assessing pavement condition and calculating maintenance workload.
Complies with the On-Site Testing Procedures for Highway Subgrade and Pavement, JTG 3450–2019/T0973–2019.

How to Use a Cross-Section Ruler
1. Preparatory Work: Determine the test section, select test cross‑sections according to the method specified in T0902 of this procedure, and mark them accordingly.
2. Select the cross section where rutting needs to be tested, position the cross‑sectional ruler over the measurement section with its direction perpendicular to the road centerline, and place the support feet at both ends along the sides of the test lane.
3. Along the cross‑sectional ruler, mark a point every 200 mm. Use a measuring tape to stand it vertically against the road surface and read the elevation difference between the bottom of the cross‑sectional ruler and the road surface, accurate to 1 mm. If the highest or lowest point of the section is clearly not located at one of the test points, increase the density of measurement points.
4. Record the station numbers of the test sections, their locations, and the elevation differences at each section.
5. When cross‑section measurements are not required and only the maximum rut depth needs to be determined, a cross‑section ruler without legs can be used to visually identify the location of the maximum rut on the pavement and then measure it with a ruler.
