  • Product Uses

This instrument is used for conducting soil compression tests to determine the relationships between soil deformation and applied pressure, or between void ratio and pressure, as well as the relationship between deformation and time. It enables the calculation of unit settlement, compression coefficient and compression index, rebound index, compression modulus, consolidation coefficient, and other parameters; the specific test items to be performed are determined according to project requirements. It is a high-pressure consolidation apparatus that succeeds the low- and medium-pressure consolidation devices. It can perform low-pressure tests, medium-pressure tests, and—most notably—high-pressure tests.

    Main Technical Parameters and Indicators

    1 Specimen area 30 cm², 50 cm²
    2 Leverage ratio 24:1, 20:1
    3 Loading method Weight
    4 Maximum pressure 4000 kPa (30 cm²), 2000 kPa (50 cm²)
5 Pressure range 12.5 kPa to 4000 kPa

    Installation and Usage Instructions

    1. The instrument should be placed in a dry, vibration-free indoor environment and positioned securely (preferably with the base feet bolted down).

    2. Before use, the lever must first be leveled as follows:

    (1) With no load applied, place the lever-leveling clamp on the container support and secure the crossbeam between them, ensuring that the crossbeam tension rod remains vertical.

    (2) Rotate the balance weight to adjust the lever until it is level or slightly above level, then secure the balance weight with an M14 nut. At this point, remove the lever-leveling clamp and the loading test can be carried out.

    (3) According to the test specifications, apply incremental loads to the soil samples (see Table 1).

    Precautions

    1. Since the lever is initially adjusted to a horizontal position before no-load testing, no further leveling is required during the step-by-step loading process. As the soil specimen settles, the lever tilts downward; to prevent the lever from tipping over due to the stop mechanism interfering with continued loading, the lever is raised to its upper stop (i.e., tilted upward) prior to the first load increment. The maximum allowable compression is 10 mm.

    2. Two types of tests are conducted: one with a lever ratio of 24:1 for the 30 cm² specimen and another with a lever ratio of 20:1 for the 50 cm² specimen. To switch between these settings, simply reposition the pendulum pin on the suspension pan; however, the lever must be leveled beforehand.

    3. This instrument is not equipped with a dial indicator having a measurement range of 10 mm (with a reading accuracy of no more than 0.22 mm), and the error per revolution shall not exceed 0.012 mm (users are required to provide their own).

Note: The lever sensitivity calibration weight, when combined with an M5×16 screw, serves as the pre-load weight.

    Maintenance and Care

Before each test, the instrument and its surrounding area should be thoroughly cleaned to prevent fine soil and water from entering the bearings. Since a bearing assembly is used, a small amount of clean machine oil should be periodically injected into the bearings, and the lever should be rocked several times to ensure the bearings remain responsive.

    Remarks

    1. Implementation Standard: GB/4935-85

    2. Net weight: 140 kg (three-unit set)
