Product Introduction

The TCFZ-II ceramic tile boiling-water bath is used to determine the water absorption of ceramic tiles, daily-use ceramics, architectural and sanitary ceramics, and electrical porcelain by the boiling method. It can also be employed for measuring the water absorption of bricks, tiles, cement products, and other similar materials. The main control unit is a microprocessor, enabling fully automated control throughout the entire process; manual settings are also available, making operation straightforward.

The main unit is constructed with a stainless steel inner liner and high-quality thermal insulation cotton, featuring water-level setting, automatic water replenishment, continuous boiling, and dry-boil protection. It also allows for arbitrary adjustment of temperature, constant-temperature duration, and water-level height, thereby meeting the requirements of standards such as GB/T 3810.3-2016 “Determination of Water Absorption, Apparent Porosity, Apparent Relative Density, and Bulk Density of Ceramic Tiles” and GB/T 3299-2011 “Method for Determining Water Absorption of Daily-Use Ceramic Ware.”

Purpose of the Experiment

The quality and performance of ceramic tiles, including water resistance and thermal shock resistance, are evaluated by boiling the tiles in boiling water for a specified duration and then examining their appearance, dimensional changes, and physical properties.

Test equipment

- Constant-temperature water bath: capable of maintaining and stabilizing the water temperature at close to 100°C.

- Heating device: used to heat the water bath.

- Support frame or suspension basket: used to hold ceramic tiles so they can be heated evenly in water.

Test Procedure

1. Prepare ceramic tile specimens by cleaning them thoroughly and allowing them to air dry; then measure and record their initial dimensions and visual characteristics.

2. Place the test specimen on the holder or suspended basket inside the constant-temperature water bath, ensuring that the specimen is completely immersed in the water.

3. Heat the water bath until the water reaches a boil and maintain the boiling for a specified period; the standard typically specifies a boiling duration of 2 hours or longer.

4. Once the specified time has elapsed, stop heating and allow the specimen to cool naturally in water.

5. Remove the test specimen, measure its dimensions again, inspect its surface for cracks, spalling, discoloration, and other defects, and record and analyze the findings.

Result Determination

According to the relevant standards, if a ceramic tile specimen exhibits no obvious cracks or spalling after boiling and its dimensional changes remain within the permissible limits, the tile is deemed to have good performance in terms of water resistance and thermal shock resistance, thereby meeting the quality requirements; conversely, such findings indicate performance deficiencies that may compromise the tile’s durability and reliability in practical applications.
