    Overview

    The concrete rebound hammer uses a spring-driven impact hammer to strike the concrete surface through the impact rod, causing instantaneous elastic deformation recovery force. This force drives the hammer to rebound the pointer, indicating the rebound distance. The rebound value (the ratio of the rebound distance to the distance between the hammer and the rod before impact, expressed as a percentage) is used as one of the indicators related to the compressive strength of concrete to estimate the concrete's compressive strength.

    With the development of China's economic construction, the number of high-rise buildings in construction projects is increasing, and the use of high-strength concrete is also growing. The demand for using rebound hammers to test the strength of high-grade concrete on-site is becoming more urgent. Therefore, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China issued the industry standard "Technical Specification for Strength Testing of High-Strength Concrete" (JGJ/T294-2013) and the calibration standard for rebound hammers: the National Metrology Verification Regulation of the People's Republic of China "Concrete Rebound Hammer" (JJG817-2011).

    Technical Requirements

    1. The instrument used to measure the rebound value must be a rebound hammer with an energy of 5.5 joules, an impact hammer stroke length of 100mm, and an impact rod front spherical radius of 18mm. The rebound hammer must have a manufacturer's certificate of conformity and a calibration certificate from the verification unit, and must have the following marks in a prominent position: name, model, manufacturer (or trademark), factory number, and production date.

    2. The rebound hammer must meet the following standard state requirements:

    • When striking horizontally, at the moment the impact hammer disengages, the standard energy of the rebound hammer should be 5.5J.

    • At the moment of collision between the impact hammer and the impact rod, the impact tension spring should be in a free state, and the starting point of the impact hammer should correspond to the "0" mark on the pointer scale.

    • On a steel anvil weighing 20kg with a Rockwell hardness HRC of 60±2, the calibrated value of the rebound hammer should be 83±2.

    The ambient temperature for using the rebound hammer should be between -4 and +40°C.
