  • The emulsified asphalt storage stability tester is designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements specified in “Emulsified Asphalt Storage Stability Test” (T0655-1993) as outlined in the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China standard JTJ052-2000, “Test Procedures for Asphalt and Asphalt Mixtures in Highway Engineering.”

    Suitable for determining the storage stability of various types of emulsified asphalt.

    Usage and Steps

    1. Wash the stability test tubes separately with a solvent (gasoline can be used), cleaning solution, and clean water, then dry them in an oven set at 105℃ ± 5℃. After cooling, seal the outlets of the upper and lower branches with stoppers.

    2. Pour approximately 300 mL of the uniformly emulsified asphalt sample through a 1.18 mm sieve into the sample container.

    3. Stir the filtered emulsion sample thoroughly with a glass rod, then slowly pour it into the stability test tube until the liquid level reaches the 250 mL mark on the tube’s wall. During the pouring process, ensure that no air bubbles adhere to the side arm of the tube. Finally, seal the tube opening tightly with a stopper.

    4. The Emulsified Asphalt Storage Stability Tester (Emulsified Asphalt Stability Tester) places the sample-containing, sealed stability test tubes onto a tube rack and allows them to stand undisturbed at room temperature for five days and nights. During this standing period, regularly observe whether the emulsion exhibits any signs of layering, sedimentation, or discoloration. Keep detailed records, noting the fluctuations in room temperature over the five-day period—both the highest and lowest temperatures recorded. If the produced emulsion is scheduled to be used up within five days, the sample for the storage stability test may be allowed to stand for only one day and night. After the standing period, gently remove the stopper from the upper branch tube, allowing approximately 50 grams of the sample to flow out through the upper branch tube opening into an evaporation residue test container. Next, remove the stopper from the lower branch tube opening and carefully drain all the sample above the lower branch tube into a second container. Then, thoroughly shake the sample below the lower branch tube, tilt the stability tube, and allow about 50 grams of the remaining sample inside the tube to flow out through the lower branch tube opening into a third, pre-weighed evaporation residue test container.

    5. Weigh the upper and lower portions separately, accurate to 0.2 g, then determine the content of evaporation residue PA and PB according to the method specified in “T0651-1993 Test Method for Determination of Residual Content of Emulsified Asphalt.”

    6. The storage stability of emulsified asphalt is calculated according to the following formula, and its absolute value is taken: Emulsified Asphalt Storage Stability Tester.
