The SSWY-910 Rapid Concrete Alkali Content Analyzer is used to determine the alkali content of concrete and its raw materials, specifically the equivalent sodium oxide content, Na₂O (%).
Product Uses
Concrete raw materials contain alkalis (potassium and sodium ions). When concrete is exposed to a sufficiently humid environment for an extended period, these alkalis react with the reactive silica in the coarse and fine aggregates, leading to volumetric expansion and cracking—this phenomenon is known as alkali–aggregate reaction. Given the detrimental effects of alkali–aggregate reaction on concrete structures, both domestically and internationally, strict limits on the alkali content of concrete are rigorously enforced.
According to relevant standards such as the “Standard for Limiting Alkali Content in Concrete” CECS 53:93 and the “Standard for Evaluating the Durability of Concrete Structures” CECS 220:2007, the alkali content of concrete refers to the equivalent sodium oxide content in concrete, expressed in kg/m³; the alkali content of concrete raw materials refers to the equivalent sodium oxide content of the raw materials, expressed as a mass percentage (%). The equivalent sodium oxide content is defined as the sum of sodium oxide and 0.658 times the potassium oxide, i.e., equivalent sodium oxide content = Na₂O + 0.658 × K₂O.
This instrument employs the ion-selective electrode (ISE) method, utilizing imported composite potassium-ion and composite sodium-ion electrodes from the United States to rapidly determine the alkali content (%) in concrete—including fresh concrete, wet concrete, and powdered samples of hardened concrete—as well as in concrete raw materials such as cement, chemical admixtures, and mineral admixtures, in accordance with the following standards: 1. Code for Limit Values of Alkali Content in Concrete, CECS 53:1993; and 2. Standard for Assessment of Durability of Concrete Structures, CECS 220:2007.

Testing principle: The SSWY-910 Alkali Content Rapid Tester employs the ion-selective electrode (ISE) method to rapidly determine the alkali content of water-soluble substances such as concrete, aggregates, and admixtures. Prior to use, concrete or other samples must be pre-treated. Two pre-activated and calibrated electrodes are immersed in the test solution according to the instructions—one measures sodium ion concentration, the other potassium ion concentration. The instrument converts the measured voltage data (mV) into Na₂O and K₂O contents (% ) using calibration curves, and after entering the results into the host’s calculation formula, it automatically calculates the concrete alkali content as Na₂O (%). Once the electrodes are activated, each test takes only about 10 minutes. The correlation coefficient between the SSWY-910 results and those obtained by flame atomic emission spectroscopy is 0.97%, with a testing deviation of within 5%.
