Our company’s fully automatic direct shear apparatus is designed to determine the shear strength of soils. It features a high-resolution color display and intelligent microcomputer control, enabling full automation of the testing process, convenient operation, high accuracy, stable loading rates, reliable performance, and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The instrument employs a high-performance stepper motor as its drive source, significantly reducing vibration. The electrically controlled shear rate is freely selectable, allowing for rapid adjustment and ensuring ease of use and durability. It supports simultaneous testing of four specimens, and includes an automatic stop mechanism upon return to the initial position. Key improvements include: replacing the original DC speed-regulating motor with a compact stepper motor; lowering the motor supply voltage from 220 V to 48 V; and upgrading the lever’s fulcrum from a blade-type design to a bearing-supported design. This product is supplied standard with our company’s PC-based direct shear testing software, which automatically measures settlement deformation during the test, requires manual stepwise loading, automatically calculates test results, displays multiple types of test curves, and generates reports in tabular form.
This instrument is primarily used to determine the shear strength of soil. Typically, four soil specimens are tested, each subjected to a series of vertical confining pressures—400 kPa, 300 kPa, 200 kPa, 100 kPa, and 50 kPa—and then sheared under increasing horizontal shear stress until failure occurs. The shear stress at failure is recorded, and the soil’s shear strength parameters—cohesion and internal friction angle—are subsequently calculated using Coulomb’s law.
Product Design Standards
In the “JTG 3430-2020 Code for Geotechnical Testing of Highway Engineering,” T0140-2019 refers to the slow shear test, and T0141 refers to the consolidated quick shear test.
T0142 Quick shear test, T0 176-2007 drained repeated direct shear test.
“The four-link electric instrument has a net weight of 180 kg (including weights) and external dimensions of 1020 × 800 × 1150 mm.”

Shear displacement is equipped with limit protection.
Equipped with a two-stage reducer and a high-resolution stepper motor driver, it delivers zero-vibration at the lowest speed.
The horizontal pressure measurement employs high-precision pressure sensors, resulting in small measurement errors and high data acquisition accuracy.
Horizontal deformation and axial settlement are measured using digital dial indicators, which offer high data stability.
Our independently developed PC-based geotechnical testing software supports fully automated testing throughout the entire process, including data acquisition and recording, visualization of various parameter curves, automatic calculation of test results, and comprehensive report generation that complies with relevant standards.
