Overview

This instrument is used to determine the penetration resistance of geotextiles and related products when a steel cone is dropped from a fixed height. It characterizes the extent of damage inflicted on the geotextile surface by sharp stones falling onto it, and its performance complies with the instrument requirements specified in GB/T 17630-1998 “Geotextiles and Related Products—Dynamic Puncture Test—Drop Cone Method.”

Test Principle

The geotextile specimen is horizontally clamped in the clamping ring, and a stainless steel cone of specified mass is dropped from a height of 500 mm onto the specimen. The impact of the falling cone penetrates the specimen, creating a puncture hole, into which a small graduated conical penetrometer is then inserted to measure the degree of penetration.
