    1. Manual Sand Spreading Device: composed of a cylinder and a leveling plate,
    A. Sand Measuring Cylinder: shape and size, one end is sealed, volume is 25±0.15ML. The volume V can be determined by weighing the water in the sand cylinder and adjusting its height to meet the specified volume requirements. Equipped with a special scraper to level the sand at the cylinder opening.
    B. Leveling Plate: shape and size, the leveling plate should be made of wood or aluminum, with a diameter of 50MM. The bottom surface is covered with a 1.5MM thick rubber sheet, and there is a cylindrical handle on top.
    C. Scraper: can be replaced by a 30CM steel ruler.

    2. Sand: sufficient quantity of dry, clean, homogeneous sand with particle size 0.15~0.3MM.

    3. Measuring Ruler: steel ruler, steel tape measure, or a special structural depth ruler that converts diameter into structural depth as the scale unit according to the formula.

    4. Others: sand container (small shovel), broom or brush, wind shield, etc.

    Main Summary

    Pavement texture depth is an indicator characterizing pavement roughness. Previously, the manual sand spreading method was used domestically to measure texture depth. Although the method is simple, it has large human errors and lacks practical operation standards. This situation no longer meets the testing needs of China's road departments.

    Instrument Specifications

    This instrument is designed according to the departmental standard JTJ059-95 "Highway Subgrade and Pavement Field Testing Procedures" (T0962-95). In December 1992, the first domestically produced prototype was manufactured and field tested. It was compared under the same conditions with the Japanese electric roughness meter. The results showed that the electric sand spreading device produced by our factory has performance comparable to imported products and fully meets testing requirements.

    Main Technical Parameters

    1. Sand funnel capacity approximately 70mm. The lower opening width of the sand funnel is 2.7mm. Sand spreading belt size: width 50mm, thickness 4mm.
    2. Sand funnel moving speed: approximately 15mm/second.
    3. Sand funnel moving range: approximately 290mm.
    4. Overall dimensions: 470×160×140mm.
    5. DC motor power supply: 12V, 3.3A.

    Operating Procedures

    Clean loose particles and dust from the pavement.
    Fill the measuring cylinder with dry sand using the sand storage bottle, then gently tap the edge of the spreading plate on the cylinder three times, fill with dry sand, and scrape off the excess sand.
    Pour the dry sand onto the pavement, carefully spread the sand in a circular motion on the pavement using the spreading plate, trying to spread it into a circular shape.
    Use the texture depth ruler to measure two texture depth values through the center of the sand circle, perpendicular to each other, and take the average as the texture depth at that point on the pavement.
    Conduct measurements at 5 points on the same road section, each point 3-5 meters apart. Measurement points should preferably be on the rut track and at least 1 meter away from the pavement edge. Take the average of the 5 points as the texture depth of the section.
