Overview
The mortar density meter is used to determine the compacted mass density of the mortar mix, thereby ascertaining the actual quantities of the constituent materials per cubic meter of mortar mix.

Test Procedure for Mortar Density Cylinder
1. Prior to the test, weigh the capacity cylinder to an accuracy of 5 g, then attach the cylinder’s funnel and fill the cylinder with the mortar mix, leaving a slight excess. Depending on the consistency test method, either tamping or vibration shall be used to add mortar until the cylinder is completely filled.
2. Scrape off any excess mortar mix from the opening of the cylinder to ensure a smooth surface, then wipe the outer wall of the measuring cylinder clean and weigh the combined mass of the mortar and the cylinder, accurate to 5 g.
3. The mass density ρ of the mortar mix shall be calculated using the following formula:
In the formula, m1 represents the mass of the volumetric cylinder (kg).
m2----Mass of the volumetric cylinder and the test sample (kg)
V------Volume of the capacity cylinder (L)
The result shall be determined as the arithmetic mean of two test runs, calculated to an accuracy of 10 kg/m³.
Note: Calibration of the Volumetric Cylinder’s Volume A glass plate capable of covering the top surface of the volumetric cylinder may be used. First, weigh the glass plate and the volumetric cylinder together. Then, fill the cylinder with potable water at a temperature of 20 ± 5°C, adding water gradually until the level is close to the upper rim; while continuously topping up, slowly slide the glass plate along the cylinder opening to seal it tightly. Care must be taken to ensure that no air bubbles remain beneath the glass plate, after which the assembly should be wiped clean and weighed together with the glass plate. The difference between the latter weight and the former (expressed in kilograms) represents the volume of the volumetric cylinder (in liters).
