This product is a specialized instrument designed in accordance with the People’s Republic of China industry standard JGJ70-90, “Test Methods for Basic Properties of Construction Mortar.” It is suitable for determining the setting rate and setting time of wall mortar and masonry mortar, expressed in terms of penetration resistance, and is one of the dedicated pieces of equipment used in the testing laboratories of various construction research institutions and higher education institutions.

The mortar setting time tester consists of a pressure rod, test needle shaft, test needle, test needle holder 5, and test needle 7. Try It consists of a mold 8, a pressure device 9, a base, an adjusting nut 12, a vertical column, and other components (see figure).
The underlying principle is as follows: (1) the compression rod applies a compressive force, which causes (2) the test needle to slide axially downward, thereby inserting the (6) test needle into the mortar within the (7) test mold. As the mortar sets and its hardness changes over time, the test needle encounters varying penetration resistance; the corresponding resistance values are read on the pressure device, and this constitutes the compressive strength.
To use the device, first fill the test mold with uniformly mixed mortar, leaving about 10 mm of space below the top surface, and then smooth the surface. Place the test mold on the pressure gauge’s platen, and set the pressure gauge pointer to zero by turning the zero-adjustment nut (13). Next, the operator applies a vertical downward force with the pressure rod; within 10 seconds, the penetration needle should penetrate the mortar by 25 mm. The reading on the pressure gauge dial at this point represents the first measurement. At the same time, adjust the adjusting nut (11) to its highest position—aligned with the upper end face of the penetration needle holder (3)—then release the pressure rod. Under the action of the spring, the penetration needle will return to its original position. Repeat the measurement every half hour; when the resistance reaches 0.3 MPa, reduce the interval to 15 minutes, and continue testing until the resistance reaches 0.7 MPa.
Calculation of mortar penetration resistance: f_p = N_p / A_p (MPa)

Np—Static pressure at an penetration depth of 25 mm (N)
Ap —— Cross-sectional area of the penetration test needle (30 mm²)
The penetration resistance value shall be calculated to an accuracy of 0.01 MPa.

In Chapter 6 of the test methods, the relevant provisions for the mortar setting time tester shall be followed.
Maintenance and upkeep
1. After the test is completed, the worktable top, test needle, and contact plates must be thoroughly cleaned.
2. Remove the test specimen from the mold, clean it thoroughly, apply oil to prevent rust, and apply a release agent before use.
3. The sliding parts shall be regularly lubricated with oil to ensure proper instrument operation.
4. This instrument shall be installed in a quiet environment at a room temperature of approximately 20°C, free from corrosive media.
