  • Product Uses

The instrument is primarily used to determine the shear strength of soil. Typically, four soil specimens are tested under different confining pressures—400 kPa, 300 kPa, 200 kPa, 100 kPa, and 50 kPa—and subjected to horizontal shear loading until failure occurs. The shear stress at failure is then measured, and the soil’s shear strength parameters—cohesion and internal friction angle—are determined in accordance with Coulomb’s law.

    Technical Indicators

    Specimen area 30 cm² × 2 cm
    Leverage ratio 1:20
Vertical Graded Loading 50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 kPa (different loads available)
    Cutting speed 0.001–2.4 mm/min
Horizontal Load Max = 1.2 kN

    Precautions

After the test is completed, thoroughly wipe the shear box clean and apply a thin layer of rust-preventive oil to the relevant surfaces.

The force ring shall be recalibrated every six months or as required by operating conditions.

The bearings at the lever assembly shall be cleaned and lubricated with grease after six months of operation or as required by operating conditions.

When using a strain-controlled direct shear apparatus, it is essential to carefully read the technical manual, familiarize yourself with the technical specifications, operational performance, operating procedures, and safety precautions, and strictly follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the instrument’s user manual.

Personnel using a strain-controlled direct shear apparatus for the first time must operate under the guidance of experienced personnel and may only perform independent operations once they have achieved proficiency.

The strain-controlled direct shear apparatus used in the experiment shall be arranged and positioned in a rational and orderly manner to facilitate operation, observation, and data recording.
