  • Uses

    This instrument is primarily used to determine the Los Angeles abrasion value of coarse aggregates, thereby evaluating their resistance to crushing.

    This instrument complies with the industry standard JTG 3432-2024 and also with the standard T0317-2005.

    Structure

    This machine primarily consists of a cylindrical drum, support brackets, a sealing cover, a support frame, a central spindle, a gearbox, an electric motor, and a counter, among other components.

    Main technical parameters:

    Rotational speed: 30–33 rpm; 4-digit counter (automatic display with preset function).

    Operating voltage: 380 V, 50 Hz; Motor power: 1.5 kW

    1. Cylinder: A hollow, internally smooth cylindrical component made of structural steel, with both ends sealed. The cylinder has an inner diameter of 711 mm ± 5 mm, an internal length of 508 mm ± 5 mm, and a wall thickness of 12.0 mm ± 0.5 mm. The two ends of the cylinder shall be rigidly mounted on two short shafts, which must not extend into the cylinder. Furthermore, the two short shafts shall be collinear, and the angle between the axis of the assembly and the horizontal shall not exceed 1%.

    2. Feed inlet: A 150 mm ± 3 mm opening on the cylindrical shell, equipped with a hinged, closable cover made of structural steel. The cover is securely fastened to the cylinder using clamping bolts and rubber gaskets to ensure a tight seal, with a cover width of approximately 190 mm. The length of both the opening and the cover is equal to the internal length of the cylinder. The inner surface of the cover shall be smooth, and when closed, its inner contour shall coincide with the circular profile of the cylinder’s inner wall.

    3. Baffles: Rectangular steel plates made of structural steel, bolted to the inner wall of the cylindrical shell. The projection of each baffle toward the cylinder’s axis shall be 89 mm ± 2 mm, with a thickness of 25 mm ± 1 mm. The baffles shall be sufficiently long in the axial direction, and the clearance between their end faces and the inner surface of the cylinder shall not exceed 2.5 mm. During installation, the baffles shall be aligned perpendicular to the inner surface of the cylinder. The installation position of the baffles shall not impede the use of the feed inlet and shall facilitate replacement; the distance from the edge of the feed inlet opening shall be 400–850 mm (measured along the circumferential direction on the outer side of the cylinder). The wear condition of the baffles shall be inspected regularly; if the projection at any point on a baffle falls below 85 mm or its thickness falls below 23 mm, the baffle must be replaced.

    4. The motor speed is 30–33 r/min.

    5. Rotational Timer: Automatically records and displays the number of rotations of the cylinder.

    6. Steel Balls: Each individual steel ball has a diameter of 45.6–47.6 mm and a mass of 390–445 g. Within a set, the individual balls may vary slightly in size, with an average diameter of 46.8 mm and an average mass of 420 g, so that they can be assembled as required to achieve the specified total mass.

    How to Use

    1. Prior to the test, verify that the wiring is intact and manually rotate the drum to ensure smooth operation in the direction indicated by the rotation arrow; simultaneously set the counter to the zero position.

    2. Place the test gravel and steel balls into the cylinder, seal the lid, and tighten the screw. Then start the instrument to rotate.

    Stop after 500 revolutions and remove the specimen.

    3. Use a 2-mm-diameter round-hole sieve and a 1.6-mm-square-hole sieve to separate stone fines from the test sample; then rinse the retained coarse aggregate with water, oven-dry it to constant weight, and accurately weigh its mass.

    Calculation method

    1. Calculate the abrasion rate of the aggregate using the following formula, accurate to 0.1%.

    Q = G1 - G2

    G1 ×100%

    In the formula: G —— Abrasion rate of the aggregate, %;

    G1: the original mass of gravel loaded into the cylinder, in grams;

    g2: the mass of G2 after washing and drying following the test;

    2. The results of the two experiments shall be the average of the two trials; the deviation between the two results shall not exceed 2%, otherwise the experiment must be repeated.

    Random Attachment

    1. 1 copy of the instruction manual

    2. One inspection certificate

    3. Steel balls: 12 pieces
